Wanna Hurts Donut? – Springfield, MO – Full-Time RV Life

Shhhh.  I’m about to divulge a dark secret.  Even though we have been on a high-protein, moderate-fat, low-carb, no-sugar lifestyle change over the last few months, I completely blew it all to heck when I visited Springfield, Missouri.  There’s an imaginative little donut shop in the heart of the city called:

And it is unbelievably delicious.  Like, honest to goodness for ‘realzies.’  It’s open 25 hours a day 8 days a week–‘they’ say so, so it has to be true.  Watch out, they don’t care much for solicitors or troublemakers and management will handle them accordingly.  If that’s hard to believe, here’s proof in great big letters that are hard to miss:

Before getting to the counter to peruse the delectable pastries, there are a few house rules to follow.  Do read them, donut break them:

While waiting in line, there’s interesting decor to browse in the eclectic brick building.

When finally arriving at the counter, the sprinkles, sparkles, drizzles, and shiny chocolate icing weaves a spell and the reason for the long line becomes crystal clear.  There are decisions to be made.  Intense, under-pressure decisions.   Life changing, gastronomically satisfying, and taste-bud enticing decisions.  There’s no way to go quickly.  Really?   C’mon, how do I choose?

After oohing and aahing and waffling back and forth, we finally picked six donuts to take home.  I can personally recommend the Andes mint, the German chocolate, and caramel delight.  Mike picked the chocolate peanut butter cup, Oreo cheesecake, and S’mores.  The pastries were way too large and decadent to eat more than one in a setting, so we had luscious treats to contribute to our cheat over the next three days.

Here was our to-go box:

Don’t judge–everyone has a weakness!

  1. Love the funny sign and the good humor in the donut shop. We have a donut shop in Maine called Holy Donut and they make the best potato donuts in the universe. My favorite flavor – maple/bacon. Yum! If you’re going to blow your diet, you made a great choice!

  2. If I had a nickel for every time I asked that question in grammar school, and then hit my friend in the shoulder after getting “the correct answer”, I’d have enough money for a flavored coffee.

  3. Love the “do’s and donuts.” The kids used to play a game where they said, “Wanna hurts donunt? and when someone said yes, they’d give them a punch in the arm and say, “Hurts, don’ it?” I never knew there was a REAL Hurts Donut! I think I’d have to take almost one of everything and cut them into pieces to save and share. Thanks for sharing this decadent place!

  4. This place reminds me of a place called ‘Dough Daddy’s’ in Versailles, Kentucky. We used to stop there every time we came through Kentucky on the way to Texas or from Texas when I used to pick Shelby up for the summer. Though Dough Daddy’s is actually in a convenience store, they have so many flavors, we always had trouble making a decision. The were all so delicious! As a result, we always ended up spending more money than we intended, lol I love Hurts Donut’s signs and sense of humor! What an amazing find!!

  5. Thanks for sharing your link to the wonderful world of doughnuts! This place looks fabulous and I now have yet another place to add to my travel list. Thanks!
